25th     The 25th anniversary of Watertown Riverfest will feature three national acts and a host of top quality regional music that will be recognized by many people, stated Tom Schultz, chairman of the event.

The festival has signed contracts for a return performance of Ricky Nelson Remembered, featuring Matthew and Gunnar Nelson; country singer Sammy Kershaw and hard rockers Great White.

The Ricky Nelson Remembered show will be the main act Thursday, Aug. 11, at 8:30 p.m. and will be a time capsule of hits from Ozzie and Harriet to Ricky Nelson and the '90s hits of Matthew and Gunnar Nelson.

"We had an excellent response when we had this act some years ago and some good routing made it possible to bring them back this summer," Schultz said.

Sammy Kershaw will be the headliner Friday, Aug. 12, at 8:30 p.m. This Louisiana-based contemporary country artist has 13 top 20 country hits, including "Cadillac Style," "She Don't Know She's Beautiful," "Queen of My Double Wide Trailer" and "National Working Woman's Holiday."

The weekend will close out with a 7 p.m. concert Sunday, Aug. 14, by Great White, the Los Angeles-based rockers of the mid-1980s to late 1990s. This group's hits include, "OnceBitten Twice Shy," "The Angel Song" and "Rollin' Stoned."

Riverfest will also be bringing back the always popular Madison County and their contemporary country show. That band will perform a concert from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14.

The weekend will open with a 6 p.m. concert on Thursday, Aug. 11, by The Neverly Brothers. This Chicago-based group will provide an authentic interpretation of the mid-50s to mid-60s tunes from the Everly Brothers, early Beatles, Kinks and the like. They have three-part harmony vocals with uniform dress and original instrumentation.

Friday, Aug. 12, will feature a 5 p.m. concert by The WhiskeyBelles, a Milwaukee-based three-piece all-female act which combines country and folk music.

Cajun Strangers will follow with a concert from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will lead into the Sammy Kershaw concert. The band features some of Madison's finest musicians along with Jim Schwall of Siegel-Schwall Blues Band fame.

The Watertown Municipal Band will perform Saturday, Aug. 13, at noon and will feature some material written specifically for this 25th anniversary celebration.

Something to Do will take to the stage for concerts at 3 and 7 p.m. This Waukesha-based contemporary horn rockers with two CDs to their credit, have opened for national acts and played at Summerfest in Milwaukee for six consecutive years.

Gabriel Sanchez presents the "Prince Experience" will present shows at 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. This will be a full stage presentation of Prince as he is remembered from the 1980s and 1990s. Some hits likely to be heard will be "Little Red Corvette," "1999," "When Doves Cry," "Purple Rain," "Kiss" and others.

Sunday noon will open with Substitute: Tales from the Who. This Milwaukee-based Who tribute band will perform many hits the originals made famous, including, "Magic Bus," "Happy Jack," "Pinball Wizard," "Who Are You" and "Mama's Got a Squeezebox."

The festival is also working on contracts for several roving acts and a special chalk artist who will do a large piece of artwork on the roadway in a size about 12 feet by 16 feet, gradually developing it over a period of four days, until it is completed by Sunday afternoon.

The 2011 festival is coming one week later than it has been traditionally held. The change was necessitated by some shifting of schedules of other large festivals in the area. Without the move to one week later, it would have been impossible to contract with the Rainbow Valley Rides carnival midway, Schultz said. The midway is highly regarded by local residents.
