Year!

Night Ranger, Kentucky Headhunters and Steve Augeri,
former lead singer for Journey, will be headliner acts at the 2012 Watertown Riverfest celebration, volunteer leaders were told at a
gathering Tuesday evening at Turner Hall.
The festival will also include a performance by Project Pink, a
Pink Floyd tribute show as well as a number of regional acts including Johnny
Wad, The Whiskey Bells and 16 West, according to Tom Schultz, festival
chairman, who announced the slate of acts.
Riverfest will open on Thursday, Aug. 9
with shows by 16 West, a popular local act which will perform two 50 minute
sets starting at 5:30 p.m. That show will be followed by Project Pink with more
than two hours of the unmistakable Pink Floyd music.
Schultz said Friday will return to its 11 a.m. opening schedule
after a one-year trial last year of opening at 4 p.m. A number of musical acts as well as roving
artists will be on the grounds all day. The Friday night headliner will be
Night Ranger with an 8:45 p.m. show.
This classic rock band from the 1980s and ‘90s features original
bassist-lead vocalist Jack Blades along with founding members Kelly Keagy and Brad Gillis. There will be loads of recognizable music,
including “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me,” “Sister Christian,” When You Close Your
Eyes,” “Sentimental Street,” “Four in the Morning,” and “Goodbye.” The band
will also likely do two hits written by Blades when he was with the super group
Damn Yankees — “High Enough,” and “Where Ya Going Now.” Other music is planned earlier in the day
and will be announced when contracts are finalized.
Saturday's music will open at noon with a concert by the Bourbon
Street Stompers, a popular Dixieland band which has been at the festival in the
past. Following that performance there will be roving acts on the festival
grounds. The Whiskey Belles, who performed a short concert last year, will be
back for a set Saturday afternoon and another one early Saturday evening. The
Kentucky Headhunters will perform a pair of shows Saturday. The first will be
at 4:45 p.m. and the final show of the evening at 8:45 p.m.
The Kentucky Headhunters show will be followed by another Bartolotta Fireworks display which is scheduled to go off
at the conclusion of the concert.
Sunday's schedule will open at noon with a concert by Bella Cain,
a popular regional act and that will be followed with two extended sets by the
always popular Johnny Wad, starting at 3 p.m.
Then, Steve Augeri, former lead singer
for Journey, will close out the festival with a concert at 7 p.m. Journey is a
legendary classic hits band with distinctive high falsetto lead vocals and
multi-part harmonies. The band had more than 20 hits, eight of which went top
10, including, “Lovin’-Touchin’-Squeezin,’” “Any Way
You Want It,” “Open Arms,” “Faithfully,” “Don’t Stop Believin,’”
“Separate Ways,” “Only the Young,” “When You Love Someone,” “and “Be Good to
Yourself.”
Ride specials will once again be incorporated into the offerings
by Rainbow Valley Rides. This year there will be two shorter ride specials on
Thursday. One will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and the second will be from 6:30 to 8
p.m. These shortened rides specials will cost $10 and are being offered as a
way for families to stretch their entertainment dollars at the festival.
The traditional four hour ride specials for $18 will be offered
from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to the roving acts throughout the weekend, Seth
Sanders, the popular chalk artist from a year ago, will return with a new
project. Sanders last year did a large art project on the pavement on Labaree Street and drew large crowds.
Schultz said the Taste of Watertown, beverage tents, the arts and
crafts fair, classic car show and many other special events are all in the
planning stages.
