Chasin' Mason will get a  second chance to make a first  impression when it performs at  Riverfest on Aug. 5 from 6:00  to 8 p.m.

The band was supposed to  make its Riverfest debut last  year, but the show had to be  canceled due to inclement  weather. Donn Trampe, bass  player for Chasin' Mason, said  the band is looking forward to  getting the chance to finally  play at Riverside Park in front  of a Watertown crowd.

"It looks like it is going to be  a great festival, the grounds are  awesome and we just look forward  to getting the chance to  actually play this year,"  Trampe said. "It should be  fun."

Trampe added that Chasin'  Mason was disappointed that it  was unable to perform at  Riverfest in 2009, but the band  felt even worse for the fans  who expected an entertaining  show.

"It was a real disappointment,"  Trampe said, referring  to the canceled show. "But we  felt worse for the fans that had  driven all the way out and  camped out and were ready for  us to play."

Trampe describes the music  that "Chasin' Mason plays as a  high-energy mix between  country and rock." He said the  band's music has also been  compared to the sounds of U2.

"If you are familiar with the  band U2, down in Nashville  they kind of refer to our sounds  as 'Y' all 2," Trampe said.  "We just try to put on the best  show we can. It's a real highenergy  performance. We just  kind of throw everything out  there and leave nothing  behind."

Country music can be an  acquired taste, but Trampe says  festivalgoers don't have to be a  fan of that particular genre to  have a good time.

"We get a lot of country converts  at our shows," Trampe  said. "We get a lot of people at  the end of the show when we  go down and hang out a little  bit and meet some people we'll  hear, 'I hate country music but  I love you guys.'"

Chasin' Mason plays about  200 shows per year and has  performed at such gatherings  in 2010 as Summerfest in  Milwaukee, the Franklin Civic  Celebration in Franklin, the  Ashippun Firefighters Picnic  in Ashippun and Summer  Sounds in Cedarburg. The  Wisconsin-based band has also  sold 15,000 independently  released CDs. The songs of  Chasin' Mason include "The  Road," "Heartland," "Ago"  and "We Ain't Easy."
