Lineup for 2009 Riverfest
Announced

Watertown's 2009 Riverfest celebration will feature several national acts as
well as several popular regional acts that will be making return engagements.
The 2009 lineup will feature
country singer Joe Diffie, Think Floyd USA, Daryl Stuermer and many others.
The 23rd annual event will be
held Aug. 6-9 at Riverside Park.
Diffie, the national country act, has
more than 30 hits from 1990 through 2004 and continues to have a large
following for his live concerts.
His 20 top 10 hits include
“Pickup Man,” “Bigger than the Beatles,” “John Deere Green,” Honky Tonk Attitude,” If the Devil Danced,” “New Way to Light Up an Old Flame,” “and “Third Rock from the Sun.”
Think Floyd USA/the American Pink Flyod Show will present a
two hour concert with a nine piece band celebrating the Pink Floyd music with a
spectacular lighting effects and design by Watertown native Aaron Zimmermann.
That show, based in Chicago, will be at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Opening for Think Floyd USA will
be Daryl Stuermer, the legendary guitarist with
Genesis, Jean Luc Pony and Phil Collins. Stuermer
will bring his “Electracoustic duo” to open the
festival with a 6:30–7:30p.m. concert on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Dorf Kapelle,
an 18 piece authentic German band in full costume will present a two hour
concert Friday from noon to 2 p.m. The band will perform a long list of
favorite German polkas and other sing-alongs.
Friday and Saturday afternoons
there will be Dixieland music by the Bourbon Street Stompers, a well known
Wisconsin group that will perform on stage and may move around on the festival
grounds.
Opening for Joe Diffie will be Madison County, one of the favorite
contemporary country music groups in the Midwest and especially in the Rock
River Valley. Riverfest officials have received many
requests to have the always popular band do a return engagement. The Madison
County show will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7.
The Tempters, a 12 piece rhythm
and blues-soul band, will be in the 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. time slot on Saturday,
Aug. 7. The Tempters will be in full costume and full choreography for their
performance. Their show is dubbed “A Celebration of 50 years of Motown
1959-2009” and will feature many hits from that era.
Taking the stage after the
Tempters will be the Twang Dragons with a concert at 5:30 p.m. This band has
toured internationally and will present roots rock-Americana music. The band
members have a Watertown connection.
Finishing up the main stage will
be the always popular Johnny Wad, one of the most popular bands to come out of
the Fox River Valley. Johnny Wad will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. and will lead
into the Bartolotta fireworks show.
Sunday's lineup begins at noon
with the Doo Wop Daddies. This group is poised to present all the favorite doo wop
tunes presented by the Midwest's premier group for this kind of music. Their
on-stage persona is complete with suits and slick back hairdos.
Chasin' Mason will follow with a show
from 3 to 5:30 p.m. This group is
considered one of the Midwest's best country rock acts of the decade. The group
is now homebased out of Nashville when not playing
summer events throughout the Midwest.
Big Head Todd and the Monsters will be the closing act for the 2009 festival. The band, based in Colorado, will be presenting the final concert Sunday, August 9 at 7 pm. The band has produced a number of albums and tours extensively throughout the year.
Schultz said there will be a
number of specialty and roving acts throughout the grounds all weekend,
continually bringing fresh entertainment to all areas. Many of those will be
announced in the near future.
Festival scheduling and planning
is moving along well, and all committees are hard at work preparing for this
year's event.
