Lineup for 2009 Riverfest Announced

March 12, 2009

Watertown's 2009 Riverfest celebration will feature several national acts as well as several popular regional acts that will be making return engagements.

The 2009 lineup will feature country singer Joe Diffie, Think Floyd USA, Daryl Stuermer and many others.

The 23rd annual event will be held Aug. 6-9 at Riverside Park.

Diffie, the national country act, has more than 30 hits from 1990 through 2004 and continues to have a large following for his live concerts.

His 20 top 10 hits include “Pickup Man,” “Bigger than the Beatles,” “John Deere Green,” Honky Tonk Attitude,” If the Devil Danced,” “New Way to Light Up an Old Flame,” “and “Third Rock from the Sun.”

Think Floyd USA/the American Pink Flyod Show will present a two hour concert with a nine piece band celebrating the Pink Floyd music with a spectacular lighting effects and design by Watertown native Aaron Zimmermann. That show, based in Chicago, will be at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.

Opening for Think Floyd USA will be Daryl Stuermer, the legendary guitarist with Genesis, Jean Luc Pony and Phil Collins. Stuermer will bring his “Electracoustic duo” to open the festival with a 6:30–7:30p.m. concert on Thursday, Aug. 6.

Dorf Kapelle, an 18 piece authentic German band in full costume will present a two hour concert Friday from noon to 2 p.m. The band will perform a long list of favorite German polkas and other sing-alongs.

Friday and Saturday afternoons there will be Dixieland music by the Bourbon Street Stompers, a well known Wisconsin group that will perform on stage and may move around on the festival grounds.

Opening for Joe Diffie will be Madison County, one of the favorite contemporary country music groups in the Midwest and especially in the Rock River Valley. Riverfest officials have received many requests to have the always popular band do a return engagement. The Madison County show will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7.

The Tempters, a 12 piece rhythm and blues-soul band, will be in the 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. time slot on Saturday, Aug. 7. The Tempters will be in full costume and full choreography for their performance. Their show is dubbed “A Celebration of 50 years of Motown 1959-2009” and will feature many hits from that era.

Taking the stage after the Tempters will be the Twang Dragons with a concert at 5:30 p.m. This band has toured internationally and will present roots rock-Americana music. The band members have a Watertown connection.

Finishing up the main stage will be the always popular Johnny Wad, one of the most popular bands to come out of the Fox River Valley. Johnny Wad will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. and will lead into the Bartolotta fireworks show.

Sunday's lineup begins at noon with the Doo Wop Daddies. This group is poised to present all the favorite doo wop tunes presented by the Midwest's premier group for this kind of music. Their on-stage persona is complete with suits and slick back hairdos.

Chasin' Mason will follow with a show from 3 to 5:30 p.m.  This group is considered one of the Midwest's best country rock acts of the decade. The group is now homebased out of Nashville when not playing summer events throughout the Midwest.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters will be the closing act for the 2009 festival. The band, based in Colorado, will be presenting the final concert Sunday, August 9 at 7 pm. The band has produced a number of albums and tours extensively throughout the year.

Schultz said there will be a number of specialty and roving acts throughout the grounds all weekend, continually bringing fresh entertainment to all areas. Many of those will be announced in the near future.

Festival scheduling and planning is moving along well, and all committees are hard at work preparing for this year's event.
